Descartes withheld the belief that all things can be doubted in terms of their actual existence outside of one's mind, with the exception of mathematics. Existence can be doubted because one can never be absolutely certain that he or she is not dreaming at any point in time. He asserted that one can dream, or imagine, a world in which things like colors or gravity did not exist, however mathematical laws persist. In order to think something up, that something has inherent characteristics of being in which mathematics are intertwined. Otherwise one just has a "nonsomething" or infinite nothingness.
Descartes goes on to state that even mathematics can be doubted under the pretense of a deceitful god or an evil spirit. However, I personally find the pretense of a spirit planting ideas into your mind, that you believe as truths, extremely less plausibile than the pretense of being in a dream state. I find it so unlikely that I'm willing to dismiss the idea totally and assert that there are two absolute truths. The first being, as Descartes said, my thoughts and the second being mathematics.
It's believed that when a person dies, the brain stays active for a period of time not longer than 10 minutes. If this state of consciousness is similar to a dream state, in which one's brain is active but his or her body unresponsive, then it's possible that one's entire life as he or she knows it could actually be his or her real self dying. If it is true that a person only remembers the last 30 seconds of a dream at night, and this last 30 seconds seems to have gone on for hours upon waking, then is it not possible that 10 minutes of the death-conscious state could be a dream of an entire lifetime?

Well, Picard experienced a full lifetime within 25 minutes (ST:TNG, Episode 125, "The Inner Light"), so I guess a 10 minute life is also possible (tip: get heavy duty alien technology to make it happen).
